On average, 30% of what is put into our garbage can be recycled.  This would cut down on landfill sizes,  and greenhouse gases that are released into our atmosphere.  Our red wigglers eat the bacteria and fungi that live in food waste. It passes through their systems, the digested food then becomes castings.  This is the earths natural way to dispose of waste and fertilize the soil.  Red worms eat up to their body weight each day,  turning waste into rich worm castings.  Earthworms eat anything that comes from the earth,  that includes paper/cardboard/lawn clippings anything thats not acidic.
